When I first read this play, I was charmed by the characters, took pleasure in the confusion and enjoyed watching what happens when our answers to life's questions are shaken up a bit.  So often it takes a crisis to compel me to examine what I believe and how I view the world. Often when the crisis is over, I forget to reevaluate, reassess and perhaps reconsider my views until I am once again compelled to do so. In this delightful comedy, we are able to see three different men respond to life's mysteries. From a safe distance it is easy to enjoy their journey as their beliefs are brought into question, and perhaps it will give you a chance to contemplate things of consequence without having to have a crisis of your own.

Three on the Seesaw was first written and produced in 1990 in Italy, and in the summer of 2000, Art Within had the honor of Luigi Lunari being present for the United States debut. When he was asked what inspired the play he told a story of going to see a play with a friend and fellow writer. As they left the theatre, feeling like the evening's entertainment was a waste of time, their discussion led to a bet.  Luigi said that he could write a play about nothing, and could do it in a week. Luigi lost the bet, but went on to be a wonderful example of someone who has taken the words of Michelangelo to heart, "Criticize by Creating".
